Seville & Sierra

A tiny bit of Africa in Spain. A lasting Moorish legacy permeates every aspect of life in the beautiful and surprisingly diverse region of Andalucía. Sierra Morena: exotic flora and landscapes in earth tones and greens, accented by striking white farmhouses on the gently rolling hills. The Sierra Norte de Sevilla Natural Park, is part of a recently declared UNESCO Biosphere Reserve; Las Dehesas de Sierra Morena. It offers several options for walks from your base near the town of Cazalla. Then on to the enchanting city of Sevilla and the sensual delights of Al-Andalus, including Moorish arquitecture, flamenco music, delicious regional cuisine and narrow lanes scented with orange blossoms. A treat for the senses.

Day 2-3: Excursions from Cazalla

Las Navezuelas makes an excellent base for exploring the impressive variety of the Sierra Morena area. Gentle walking routes in lovely natural settings, mushroom collecting in spring or autumn, the rich diversity of Sierra Norte Natural Park and excursions to charming Moorish villages, each sporting a tiny church bell tower adorned with a massive stork's nest. The calendar of local festivities is also a delight, with frequent celebrations of all kinds.

Day 4-5: On to Sevilla

The second part of this trip shows you Sevilla, the enticing capital city of Andalucía. Beneath the elegant silhouette of the Giralda, you'll lose yourself in the endless maze of winding lanes. As you explore, you'll come upon cool patios scented by orange blossoms. Happen upon ancient bodegas with centuries-old carvers of serrano ham, converse with lively locals at an outdoor market, and find yourself bewitched by tantalizing flamenco guitar music floating in the air. They say that you cannot visit Sevilla just once: what a marvellous prophecy! A truly magical city.
