San Sebastián

San Sebastián (Donostia, in Basque language) has become a virtual Mecca for the modern gastronaut. World-class gourmands flock to this lovely seaside city in search of exquisite restaurants, fashionable pintxos bars and renowned culinary societies. The elegant cultural atmosphere on display here is not unfounded: no other city in the world has as many Michelin stars per capita. Our gastronomy extravaganza provides a few truly astonishing culinary experiences and the chance for a real encounter with the art of la buena cocina. This 4-day tour may be easily combined with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao or any another S-cape tour in Northern Spain.

Day 1: Arrival in San Sebastián

From pintxo to pintxo, from 9 p.m. to midnight. This evening, your culinary experience in San Sebastián begins by exploring the historical city centre, in a fabulous atmosphere which resembles a giant cocktail party. With the help of an expert local guide, you'll sample some of the tastiest Basque tapas available, served up (in style!) with sparkling txakoli.

Challenge: Travel to Northern Spain. Tapas tour.

Day 2: Time to explore San Sebastián

Today you can explore the city on a tapas tour of your own design, hit the beach or visit the nearby sculpture garden-museum of Eduardo Chillida. Optional extra: book a gastronomical experience of grand dimensions and immerse yourself in high-tech Basque cuisine at one of the city's renowned restaurants, such as Mugaritz - a Michelin 2-star restaurant, awarded third place among the worlds 50 best restaurants in 2008.

Day 3: End of program

Your gastronomic adventure comes to an end today after breakfast. Surely this get-away has been just enough to whet your appetite. You'll soon be planning your next S-cape to Northern Spain!
