Duration: 4 days
The Chianti Ecomarathon starts and ends in charming village of Castelnuovo Berardenga, just north of Siena. It is considered one of Italy's most scenic runs, passing iconic landscapes with gentle hills, vineyards, olive groves, cypress lined avenues, and picturesque hill top villages. If you want to enjoy this magnificent landscape but do not feel up to a full marathon try the 18km trail or the 10km walk.
During this 5 day journey you will visit the most important towns of the Chianti wine growing area, taste lots of this excellent nectar and sleep in the medieval town of Siena famous for the Palio horse race.
Arrive at Pisa airport and transfer to Siena where you will sleep for the following 4 nights. The afternoon in Siena is free to relax and go for a stroll in this beautiful ancient city. Meet at the hotel bar for a pre-dinner drink. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Siena
After breakfast in the hotel, meet the local city guide and set off for a morning tour of the medieval town. Strolling along the Banchi di Sopra street, stop to admire the Piccolomini Palace seat of Italy's old bank and Piazza del Campo where the famous Palio horse race is run twice a year. End the walk at the Cathedral before lunch in a typical local restaurant. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure for a warm up run. Tonight you are free for dinner. Overnight in Siena

After breakfast in the hotel depart for a tour of the wine producing area of the Chianti. Stop at a well known winery in Chianti for a visit of the estate and a wine tasting session. Continue the bus ride passing by Radda in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti and Panzano. Stop in Greve in Chianti to visit the well known Antica Macelleria Falorni run by the 8th generation of butcher that make traditional cured meats and salamis Free time for lunch and some more wine tasting in Greve in Chianti. Continue on to Castelnuovo Berardenga to pick up the Race kit, visit the Eco Marathon show and attend the race presentation. Tonight enjoy the Pasta Party in Castelnuovo Berardenga together with the other athletes and after an early dinner you are transferred back to Siena for the night.

07.00 am transfer to the start of the races, breakfast will be in Castelnuovo Berardenga: 09,00 Eco Marathon 42km, starts in Castelnuovo Berardenga 09.30 Ecowalk from San Gusmè 10km, starts in San Gusmè 10,15 Chianti Trail 18km, starts in Molino di Sesta Once in Castelnuovo Berardenga each participant will follow their chosen Ecomarathon program, for the 18km and 10km races a transfer to the start of the races is arranged. Also Included is lunch at the end of the race and the Price Giving celebration. In the late afternoon you are transferred back to Siena. Farewell dinner and overnight at the hotel

After breakfast you are transferred to Pisa airport for the flight home. OPTIONAL PRIVATE TRANSFERS to Florence or Pisa are possible, if you need to leave at a different time from the rest of the group or if you wish to extend your stay in Italy.

The trail is made up of a succession of climbs 45%, descents 42% and 10% on level ground. There are no particularly steep climbs. The highest point is at 649mt. a.s.l. and the lowest at 198mt. a.s.l. while the total climb is of approx 900mt
This is a fast and muscular race, approximately 30minutes shorter than a standard circuit
The trail surface is excellent, it is all consolidated dirt roads, except the initial 4km that are on clay track that becomes extremely heavy when it rains.
