Surprisingly small and surprisingly beautiful! That's the best way to describe the varied region of Flanders. Brussels, grand city of Flanders and capital of Europe, offers great cycling for everyone: pleasant bike tours through lovely landscapes, visiting cultural highlights such as historical buildings and fascinating museums. Of course you will visit the vibrant city of Brussels and discover culinary joy at some of the finest Belgian restaurants.
It's not a metropolis like Paris, London or Rome, but the city of Brussels will certainly seduce you with its multicultural charm and a wealth of beautiful squares, galleries, and narrow streets. The market square, the Atomium, and the Manneke Pis, icons of the Belgian capital, are a must for all who visit Brussels. Yet this is also the captil of the Jugendstil and of course, there is always a festival on: Couleur Café, flowers carpeting the streets or any of a multitude of exhibits.
Villages along the way: Brussels
Cycling route by way of Leuven, home to the oldest Belgian university and producer of the famous local beer. Later, a stroll through Mechelen, situated on the river Dijle, to admire historical buildings dating from the Burgundian era. Not to be missed are St. Rombouts cathedral and the palaces of Margarete of York and Margarete of Austria. An additionally intriguing visit is going to the Museum of Toys!

Villages along the way: Leuven, Mechelen
Following the Rupel and Schelde Rivers to Bornem. A short ride which leaves plenty of time for a 15-minute train ride to Antwerp city centre. Enjoy a stroll on the Meir, have a beer on one of the many squares or admire the rich architecture and art of this important Flemish city.

Gent, historical centre of Flanders, offers a variety of places of interest and a well-preserved city centre, adorned by beautiful towers, such as that of the St. Bavo cathedral which contains a Medieval alterpiece by Jan van Eyck. Of equal interest are the historical port district and the nearby Medieval Gravensteen castle, former residence of the counts of Gent.

Villages along the way: Bornem, Gent
The historical city centre of Bruges appears on the Unesco list of world heritage sites. Centuries of loving care have preserved the city's architectural and cultural treasures. Stroll along narrow lanes, to ancient squares and through lovely parks. If you fancy buying a souvenir of your journey, the shopkeepers will be happy to explain everything about their delicious Belgian chocolate or beer. Treat yourself to some 'pommes frites' on the stunning market square.

Villages along the way: Bruges
Along canals to the port of Ostend and on to the authentic coastal village of De Haan. Enjoy a refreshing dive into the North Sea or relax on the sandy beaches. It's just a short train journey into the majestic port town of Ostend, for a boat ride on the canals or a carriage ride through the city's historical streets. Option of climbing up to the belfry of the Neogothic cathedral for a fabulous view!
