Duration: 8 days
Mountain bike through the valleys and foothills of the Dolomite Mountains and challenge yourself to some long steep climbs. As you go, admire the many peaks reflected in the clear waters of Lake Levico and Lake Caldonazo. Follow the cycle paths along the beautiful Brenta and Mandola rivers and leave the vineyards and Mediterranean vegetation behind as you climb high into the Alps for crisp mountain views. Spend the night in high mountain villages and in well known spa towns and have the comfort of your luggage transportation from one hotel to the next.
The level of the MTB rides varies somewhat and can be tough and demanding. Daily distances range from 21 to 52km, the longer routes can be shortened. Some rides are on almost flat (asphalt) roads and trails around lakes and through valleys, sometimes you climb high and ride along narrow mountain trails, where you definitely need a mountain bike. A GPS is highly recommended and we can provide you with the tracks as the trails are not always easy to find. You can make the long steep climbing up to Vetriolo easier by getting a lift from the accommodation owner.
Today you arrive at Pian dei Pradi, a small village in mountains near Lago di Caldonazzo.
Villages along the way: Pian di Pradi
Short round tour to get the know the surroundings of Pian. First you descend through dense forests to Vattaro. A first climb and short descend brings you in Campregheri. Here you start a long climb passing Centa S. Nicole with some great views on the valley beside you. The reward is a descend through forest and along typical farms back to Pian dei Pradi.
Challenge: 20.8 km, 475m climbing
Villages along the way: Pian di Pradi
You start with a nice descend to the wide Brenta Valley down to the Lago di Caldanazzo. Alongside this lake and the Lago di Levico you cycle through fruit and wineyards to Levico Terme. You pass the charming little village of Tenna, situated on a hill between the two lakes. In Levico Terme you can take a swim in the lake, sit down at one of the many terraces or visit the park of the Terme. You should rest a little, because you have to climb all the way up to Vetriole Terme, where you spend the night.
Challenge: 33.2 km, 1100m climbing
Villages along the way: Vetriolo Terme, Levico Terme
From Vetriole you cycle up to the Passo de la Bassa, near the Panarotta summit (2002m). Breathtaking views on the surrounding valleys. A small path passing farms and meadows slowly takes you down. After passing a forest you descend more quickly to the unique Valle dei Mocheni, passing some small villages. A smooth asphalted road brings you all the way down to Pergine, where the steep climb back to Vetriolo begins.
Challenge: 44.4 km, 1350m climbing
Villages along the way: Pergine
Ride through the Valle dei Mocheni, where the inhabitants speak a typical German dialect, and you are surrounded by Austrian looking farms. You partly cycle along a small river coming from the mountains around you. The route end in a typical Italian surrounding: San Cristoforo at the Lago di Caldonazzo.
Challenge: 47.7 km, 975m climbing
Villages along the way: San Cristoforo
After crossing busy Pergine, you cycle through fruit yards to the little village of Madrano. Here the rather easy climb through the Val Grande and Val di Cembra starts. You pass the crystal clear Lago di Lases. You climb further up to Lona and then descend to the impressive earth pyramids of Segonzano. This is the starting points for the climb to the Lago delle Piazze and the Lago di Serraia. A long descend through the forests of Val di Pine brings you in the religious village of Montagnaga, with the Black Madonna. After nice descend youre back in the Valsugana at the Lago di Caldonazzo.
Challenge: 51.5 km, 585m climbing
This last cycle day takes you around mount Marzola, towering above the Lago di Caldonazzo with its 1737m. Narrow roads and forest tracks bring you to a fortress on the mountainside. On the way back to Pian dei Pradi you pass Vigolo Vattaro and some nice meadows, which are coloured by many flowers in spring.
Challenge: 27.2 km, 675m climbing
Villages along the way: Pian dei Pradi

The maps are based on the best available material. In Vattaro, Levico Terme and Pergine you can buy several maps of the area, we suggest:
Kompass map 75: Trento Levico Lavarone (1: 50.000)
Kompass map 075: Altopiano di Pine (1:35.000)
60km Dell'Altopiano della Vigolana (1: 20.000), obtainable at the tourist office in Vattaro
Mountainbike in Valsugana (1: 40.000), the rental bikes are delivered with this map, it's also for sales at the tourist office in Vattaro
It's worth buying these maps, since the rides partly follow narrow forest tracks and small roads, so it's not always easy to find your way.
