Duration: 9 days
The lovely green region of Alpi Liguri, closed between high mountain peaks and the bustle of the Mediterranean Riviera of Flowers, is a special place to discover. Enjoy this hidden and peaceful paradise, strolling through its beautiful countryside. You will visit picturesque, medieval fortified villages with narrow streets, encrusted in a wonderful backdrop made of chestnuts, olive trees, Alpine peaks and steep limestone walls. Close and at the same time far from the world-renowned Riviera dei Fiori, the Alpi Liguri area is still today a gem to be discovered, where nature and population keep on striking in unison. If you're looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation, this is just the right place for you!
Arrive at your hotel in Montalto Ligure and take a relaxing stroll through the narrow streets of this charming village and enjoy the view.
Today you will be faced with a tough climb through woods, along small fields and over a scrub-covered mountainside. The mule paths are well marked and, if in doubt, you follow the red arrows. From the top you walk underneath the ridge over a cattle path to the chapel on the Passo di Tavole and then descent, sometimes steeply, down back to Montalto.
Challenge: 12 km (8,5 km is the lenght of the route to and from Passo di Vena), 800m in ascent, 800m in descent, 3,5 to 5 hrs
This route is composed of many 'forgotten' paths built. The paths are sometimes hard to find but with some extra attention for the route description and the fixed markings, this will pose no problem.
Challenge: 19 km, 900m in ascent, 750m in descent, 7 to 8 hrs
After crossing an old bridge over the river a long and sometimes steep climb through beautiful and narrow forests trails on slightly wider stony paths (mulattiera) begins to reach the Colle Langan at 1150m of altitude.
Challenge: 16 km, 900m in ascent, 800m in descent, 7,5 hrs
Today a beautiful walk between high limestone peaks on the border of France and Italy allows you to discover the cultural heritage of the historic town of Pigna.
Challenge: 16 km, 750m in ascent, 750m in descent, 5,5 hrs
This varied stage begins with a descent, then a steep climb through the village of Castel Vittorio will lead you to a ridge where you can enjoy great views. Then you descend into a valley, dotted with farm fields and shaded wooded slope. After passing the old Roman arch bridge Baiardo, climb up to 900m altitude. From there you will descend to the hidden Agriturismo Vinazza.
Challenge: 15,6 km, 800m in ascent, 1000m in descent, 6,5 hrs
An alternating walking day takes you over trails, mulattiere (mule paths), mountain paths and a single piece of asphalt. A lot of altitude must be overcome.
Challenge: 15,9 km, 750m in ascent, 750m in descent, 7 hrs
The walk starts with a tough climb to the Cima Tramontina. Then you walk gradually descending over obvious marked paths to the coast at Ventimiglia.
Challenge: 13,7 km, 45m in ascent, 500m in descent, 5 hrs
The trip and our services end after breakfast.
Additional night/s at any of the accommodations along the way or in any other destination in Italy
Breakfast and dinner are delicious, often typical regional dishes. In the last night in Ventimiglia dinner is not included, but there are many restaurants within walking distance. At the Colle Langan, Montalto and Vinazza you will get a packed lunch.
Please notice that on Tuesday night the restaurant in Vinazza is closed and there is no restaurant in the neighborhood. If you arrive on Tuesday you get a cold meal. If you arrive on Monday then on Tuesday you will have a lunch included in the village of Apricale that you will encounter on your way.
