Discover Rhodes from Theologos

Welcome to Rhodes, the capital of the Dodecanese, an island which is ideal not only for those who want to relax but also for those looking for an action-packed holiday!

With its bright green hills, rich green valleys and uninterrupted line of golden beaches, Rhodes is truly a blessed place. Add in the excellent facilities for tourism, the island’s special blend of cosmopolitan and traditional and numerous cultural and archaeological sites and you’ve got the perfect holiday destination.

You will stay at a family-run hotel in Theologos on Bed-and Breakfast basis. The hotel has a swimming pool and a tennis court.

You will receive your bikes on the first day at the hotel. Rental bikes are of excellent quality: mountain bikes and hybrid bikes of Trek and Gazelle-all with 24 gears.

You will discover the butterfly valley of Petaloudes, the excavations of the antique city of Kamiros, the castle of Kritinia and the wine village of Embonas. Rhodes town can be reached by public bus. Apart from the bike trips mentioned in the day-to-day program, some more trips are available in the travel documentation (ranging from easy to challenging).

Round trip by bike to the butterfly valley of Petaloudes.

The butterfly valley is a piece of forest with small paths and wooden bridges that lead you up the valley. The area is the natural habitat of the Tiger Moth, a butterfly species.

You witness a spectacular rare phenomenon: huge numbers of butterflies congregate in this small valley during the final stage of their life cycle. Every year, at the end of the wet season (late May), thousands of butterflies attracted by the scent of the Oriental Sweet gum trees cover the entire landscape. They are actually adult insects that follow the waterways and migrate here to reproduce. In the Valley of the Butterflies, there is a Museum of Natural History housed in a nicely restored Italian house of the 30s.

Cycling distance: 13 km/8 miles

Villages along the way: Kato Korakiana, Paleokastritsa

Day 3: Kamiros

Round trip by bike to Kritinia and Embonas. This is the famous wine region of Rhodes, on the slopes of Mount Attaviros, the highest mountain of the island. This area is scarcely populated. Kritinia is located near the spectacular West-coast of the island. The Medieval Castle of Kritinia is certainly worth a visit.
