The Sierra de Gredos

On the sunny south side of Sierra de Gredos, you'll find the welcoming and well-maintained El Calambuco complex. The 2- and 4-person units are built in traditional architectural style. Situated around a swimming pool, the apartments offer views to the high peaks of Gredos and out across the fields of Vera Valley. Pepper fields, fig trees, citrus and olive orchards and aromatic Mediterranean woods flourish in this mild microclimate.

From the high meadows of Gredos, the landscape sweeps down toward the more extreme climate of the Spanish meseta, a course followed by rushing rivers carrying fresh water from the snowmelt. Wonderful spots to swim in summer, in natural pools of granite stone at the bottom of spectacular ravines, and the chance to go canoeing at the dam on the River Tiétar.  

In the area near your accommodation, there are easy walks on rural tracks and shady woodland paths. Higher up in the sierra, a network of well-marked walking routes includes easy strolls for beginners, with the occasional more difficult section. Nearby, you can visit Monfragüe Natural Park, a reserve for birds of prey, or the fabulous monastery at Yuste. Even Madrid is only a 2-hour drive away.
