Challenge: Travel to Spoleto
Villages along the way: Spoleto
As you bid adieu to lively Spoleto, you walk into the peaceful Valeriana mountains. Cross over the Ponte delle Torri bridge to encounter the magnificent oak forests of Monte Luco. Ascend through Valcieco to the highest ridge of Castelmonte and then descend amidst an overgrown path into the valley near the tiny picturesque village of Scheggino.
Challenge: 16 km, 600m climb, 700m descent, 5.5 hours
Villages along the way: Scheggino
After breakfast, travel by car to the small village of Gavelli for a panoramic walk to the highest point of Monte Coscerno (1684m). On a clear day you have a 360 degrees view of the breathtaking Umbrian countryside, dotted with the Sibillini peaks to the east and the Gran Sasso to the south. The descent takes you gradually down to Poggiodomo.

Villages along the way: Gavelli & Poggiodomo
Breakfast today is followed by a longer car transfer from the Valnerina to Visso, a small village in the Monti Sibillini National Park. Delve deep into the Apennine mountains, through the Valle di Visso to the valley of Preci. Pass ancient villages to reach the walls of Norcia, a captivating medieval city famous for its "tartufo nero" and numerous butcher shops.
Challenge: 17 km, 800m climb, 820m descent, 6.5 hours
Villages along the way: Visso, Preci, Campi & Norcia
The tour ends after breakfast.
Challenge: Depart from Norcia
Additional night/s at any of the accommodations along the way, in Rome, Florence or other Italian destinations
The best city to fly into is Rome, to one of its two commercial airports: Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci" Airport, major international airport; or Ciampino, smaller and serviced more by low-cost European airlines. There are regular busses and trains which go to Rome's main Termini train station, from which you can easily hop on a train for Spoleto.
There are also airports in the cities of Pisa and Florence which have train connections to Spoleto.
There is also a regular bus service from Norcia to Spoleto.
If you come in your own car, it is better to park in Norcia as the hotel in Spoleto does not have a parking lot and parking in town is limited.
It is possible to take small dogs on this trip, but at the accommodation in Scheggino the dog has to sleep in the garden. Ask us about the dog supplement.
